If you have just brought a kitten to your home and now you are thinking “How do I take Kitten Care?” then don’t worry! I have the right guide to help you take care of the kitten. Taking care of kittens is fun and refreshing. Try not to be overwhelmed by the cuteness though!
As you can see, kittens are quite fragile and sensitive, they need extra care and love. So you need to dedicate your full commitment to it. So, the things that you need to do are;
Prepare a cozy place
Set up a quiet and cozy place for your kitten so it feels safe and at home. Provide everything necessary at the corner such as food, a litter box, toys, and a cozy bed. The kittens are naturally curious creatures, so make sure there are no tiny gaps in which they might get stuck or any cords they can chew upon.
What to feed your kitten?
Kittens grow pretty fast and for that, they need the right type of diet. For the first few weeks, your kitten will need the special ‘kitten formula milk’ since they are young, they can’t eat solid or chewable food. After 4 or 5 weeks, shift them to high-quality kitten food specially made for their healthy needs. The food can be either dry or wet.
Don’t worry about the mealtime, your kitten’s continuous meows will let you know that it’s time to feed it!
Playtime!
Kittens are very energetic. They need to play a lot to burn off their curiosity and excitement. Have a variety of toys such as feather wands, yarn balls, and anything they can play with. You can also install some shelves for them to climb. This will help them develop coordination as well as bonding with you. They will be refreshed and won’t get bored. (Don’t let them get bored!)
Potty Training!
When you bring a kitten to your home, show them the litter box, to build up their habit. Be mindful of cleaning it regularly and make sure it’s easy to use. Try not to make it hard for their short and cute legs, bring the right size litter box.
Regular Check-up!
Before bringing a kitten, make sure to meet a vet beforehand. Kittens need to be regularly checked so that they grow up healthy and strong. Also, set up their vaccination schedule to prevent common diseases. You can also consider spaying or neutering.
Winter Care!
Winter can be a most challenging time for kittens, especially when they are newborn and newly adopted. They are very sensitive so it’s important to keep them warm in winter and provide a comfortable environment. Keep them indoors and ensure that their bedding is soft and comfortable. Monitor and maintain the room temperature to 24°C if your kitten is 4 weeks old, if your kitten is 1-3 weeks old then maintain the room temperature to 26°C to 29°C and if your kitten is 0-1 week old then maintain your room temperature to 29°C to 32°C.
Here is an important key point if you are not able to maintain room temperature then make a box for your kitten’s care and put her into it and then follow all the steps that have been discussed before. Keep in mind the box size is approximately 4 to 5 times larger than your kitten size. Now you are able to easily maintain the temperature of that box instead of your room. Here are different methods used for maintaining the box temperature.
Using a 100 W bulb in the box. Which releases much heat energy that fulfills our required needs.
Using pet-safe heating pads.
Nutrition also plays an important role in the kitten’s care in winter. So ensure that you are feeding your kitten according to a properly balanced diet plan to help them stay warm.
Lastly, if you have to take your kitten outside, then keep in mind to use a warm carrier to protect your kitten from cold.
Mingling!
To build confidence in your kitten helps them to socialize with your friends and family members, as well as other pets. The more they interact, the more they’ll learn about their surroundings. Also, never forget to reward them with treats and affection, it’ll have a positive impact on them.
Before you know it, your kitten will be purring happily here and there. Just remember that ‘patience is key!’
